Famous for its
wine, the Yarra Valley and the ranges surrounding the valley are also home
to a myriad of other attractions. From the world-famous Healesville
Sanctuary to the wonders of the Dandenong Ranges. Alternatively there are major Arts spaces
and much else to see and do in the region.
Healesville
Sanctuary can justifiably claim to offer Australia's finest
presentation of our native birds and animals. Featuring over 200 species of Australian
birds and animals in natural
bush settings, the Sanctuary is also a key centre for animal research and
care. The first centre to breed Platypus in
captivity in the 1940's, the Sanctuary is also engaged in current programs supporting endangered species.
Daily the Sanctuary conducts a range of wonderful Meet-the-Keeper animal
presentations.
To the south of the river's valley lies
the Dandenong Ranges. The Dandenongs have long been a haven and escape for
Melburnians. As kids - whether big or small - Melbourne has had a love affair
extending over 50 years with Puffing Billy, the historic steam locomotive.
For others the key attraction is the many grand gardens that are found
across the Dandenongs. The region is also popular with those hunting out
antiques and collectables in the many villages and towns of the ranges.
Equally there are number artists and arts presentation spaces. A Day
Outdoors Touring often hosts tailored tours to the Dandenongs.
A Day Outdoors Touring would be pleased to
prepare a tour program to this region in line with your interests. |
